3. Online Lessons

4. Progress & Feedback

Progress & Feedback

Individual Profiles

We begin with a comprehensive understanding of your child's unique strengths, challenges, and academic goals. Our profiles serve as the foundation for every lesson, ensuring that every interaction is tailored to their specific needs.

Feedback Loops

Continuous feedback is the heartbeat of our approach. We provide regular, constructive insights to parents and students alike, helping to refine learning pathways and celebrate every small victory along the way.

Known. Encouraged. Challenged. (1500 x 1500 px) (1500 x 2500 px) (Website)-2.png

Learner First starts with a conversation:

- What is getting in your child's way of their progress and confidence?

- What helps them to learn and what makes it more challenging?

 - What do they need to be doing to be more independent in their learning and to feel confident about it?

From there, we can build a clear route forward

The Process

1. Tell me what your learner needs

The first thing you need to do is complete a no obligations short diagnositic quiz for your child.

Free resources = Updated weekly to allow students access to a library of resources to help support them in their independent work

Teacher Led Feedback = One piece of written work set & submitted weekly to be marked by a qualified teacher & Examiner with two targets to be worked on per 4 weekly block. Feedback is recorded live to explain written marking in greater depth

Guided Tuition = ongoing live small classes with constant teacher support

Taught Module = one shared topic/text at a time 6 weekly online course with live teaching

Intensive = Short focused courses of 2hrs or school holiday workshops

1:1 = fully bespoke specialist support

2. Choosing the Right Pathway

3. Clear, achievable goals

Once you have reserved your child’s space, we will use their Individual Learning Profile and any school feedback that you believe is relevant to set the first two targets that your child’s progress will be focused on for the next half term.

This is to ensure children do not feel overwhelmed with “everything they have to fix” and to procures meaningful progress.

These targets are generally focused around particularly writing skills but are completely individualised to your child’s needs.

Once I have received your diagnostic quiz, I will work through the results and follow up with you via email or  consultation call to talk you through the two key areas of progress for your child and what the best pathway may be. I welcome parent input so if you think another pathway would suit your child better, then you are welcome to try this first.

In the meantime, your child has access to the free resources on site to support them.

What Happens Each Week in Online Classes

Live teaching from a highly experienced teacher and examiner designed to maintain the outstanding academic experience of the classroom - explicit questioning and explanation, class discussion, and modelling/scaffolding answers -  but in a much more individualised way.

Small Enough to Know Every Learner

With a maximum of 6 students per class, no child disappears into the background. I know each of my student’s strengths, challenges, confidence and learning needs, so I can quickly respond when something hasn’t clicked or extra encouragement is needed.

Flexible teaching. High expectations.

Unlike the rigid structure of a typical classroom, a Learner First classroom is designed to adapt. I can slow down, revisit, re-explain, scaffold or stretch tasks and explanation in our lessons without ever needing to lower expectations. The result - every learner making meaningful progress.

More Than Just an Online Class - Teacher Led, Not Worksheet Led

Adapt the teaching, not the expectations

Different pace. Clearer modelling. Purposeful scaffolding. Lessons are designed to be taken step by step so students fully comprehend how to build the skills and answers that will help them to reach their targets. Resources are adapted for SEND leaners to ensure approaches are being used that will be most effective for their learning needs. Adaptations made for the individuals but all students have the same ambitious goals.

Build confidence and independence

We start with scaffolding and teacher led modelling, but gradually this support is removed as students grow more confident and independent in their own ideas, opinions and ability. The end result - students who feel confident in their understanding and analysis, not simply trying to replicate “the right answer”.

Modelling & Practise

Clear, achievable targets

We focus on two meaningful and personalised targets at a time to ensure progress and creates a sense of achievement that boosts self-confidence, before moving onto another area.

Targeted feedback to create progress

Feedback is targeted to your child’s specific targets and has a clear structure to ensure progress: what they excelled in; two areas that needs improvement; and a clear path to get there.

Parent Visibility

After each lesson, your child’s online mark book will be updated so you will know what we are working on, what is improving and what the next priority is for your child. We want to keep you informed and involved in your child’s education without turning it into another admin job.

Progress You Can See!

The Practicalities

Online via Teams

During independent task time, each student will have a 'breakout room' call where they will need to share their screen with me so we can go through their work without having to share it with the rest of the class.

Lessons are taught live on Microsoft Teams. A laptop or computer is ideal; a tablet can work where it gives your child enough space to see resources and participate.

In Lesson Checks

Parents have a simple route for practical updates or questions betweeen lessons.
